Excerpt from Benny, The Resurrection

... The magic word rang in McCloud’s ears as he slumped to his knees. In that terrible moment he knew that tonight Benny’s plan for revenge had been born. Then McCloud heard a crackling noise that sounded like hot grease in a pan. Again he covered his ears when an awkward “POP” ruptured the ghoul into three smaller ones. Cackling like deranged hyena, they zigged, zagged and swooshed around the nursery. They coupled in mid-air—an orgy of light. They hurled lewd gestures and insulted McCloud in his father’s voice. They taunted the children until they began cry. Then, one by one, like rabid kamikazes, they dove from the ceiling into the teary eyes of each crying child. When all three babies stopped crying simultaneously, McCloud’s head fell to his chest. It was over.

Benny had entered the children as he had entered Larry McCloud years ago. Their names, Jason, Latrel and Silla, would one day be legendary. They were Benny’s children now. They would be the knowledge, the vision, and the voice behind his plan. They would give Benny what he so desperately wanted.

For the first time in years, McCloud began to pray. Defeated and possessed by a feeling of guilt no man should bear, he called on the God he never had time for. Then three armed police officers swarmed over him and interrupted his useless prayer. They pinned him to the floor and pried the gun out of his hand.

Once subdued, the officers led McCloud toward the entrance of the nursery where, Foster, the boy from animal control, stood beside Captain Quint quite alive. McCloud searched the nursery for signs of Ghost. His old dog’s body had vanished and, so too had Benny. All that was left on the floor where Ghost had been were a few strange looking gadgets and sputtering devices no bigger than watch batteries.
